Went for passport application today (12th Oct 2022 4:30pm) , my appointment. And I'm not happy about how I was refused due to my child birth certificate not satisfied by the staff however it is a genuine birth certificate issued by the Japanese Consulate in Brisbane and it's in English. It's the exact document used to apply for our Australian citizenship but this post office did not recognise while another post office accepted. It is because they are lack of training? They asked me to have the Japanese birth certificate translated into english but I said this is already the birth certificate issued by consulate, there's no birth certificate in Japan but only a document showing the family registry that a person belongs to which is not a birth certificate. Staff asked me to call Immigration/Home affair. Waste of my time. I'll go to another post office. Honestly the rejection means they do not recognise what the Australian Home Affair department recognise and it is the birth certificate that the Government of Japan officially issued already in english. Very daring they are to reject in my opinion and said because passport application requires the highest authenticity documentation. What a waste of my time today. They could have made a call to the consulate to verify that the birth certificates are genuine. To be honest, we already have shown them the Citizenship certificates and I'm pretty sure the Home and Affair department would require no less background check etc. During the citizenship application we have been using the exact birth certificates issued by the Consulate of Japan and we obtained citizenship. Enough said. By the way, booking or not booking, you are not treated differently. You still have to wait in queue just like anyone else. Post office should face this issue. 13th Oct update. Application done at a nearby post office. And the staff there are very polite and helpful.
